Hip-Hop Dance to Promote Health
The fight against obesity has just met its match—hello Hip-Hop Dance!
It is no wonder that Hip-Hop Dance is an effective means to motivate youth into living a healthy lifestyle. It is something that they can do for free and as a social activity that encourages teamwork, creativity, and of course—fun.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, “the percentage of children ages 6–11 in the United States who were obese increased from 7% in 1980 to nearly 18% in 2010”. Illustrating the non-shocking trend that we are failing as a society to encourage and support proper systems for healthy habits at a young age.

The charismatic Phoenix James, Daughter of the PBS Art Loft TV Host Kalyn James, assists No Bodies Crew and follows my lead in the 90s dance grooves segment. Her enthusiastic smile again confirms that Hip-Hop dance is a powerful catalyst for youth to increase their physical activity while having a good time.
The CDC suggests that obesity prevention begins with healthy lifestyle habits, including healthy eating and physical activity.
With that in mind I ask, what could be a better lifestyle change than a positive channel of self-expression such as Hip-Hop Dance? A dance connected to an entire culture packed with many artistic elements of expression. All which reinforce the values of peace, love, unity, and our favorite—having fun!
Over the years, we have been strong advocates for inspiring the youth into the arts and we believe that via Hip-Hop dance & culture we can encourage positive change in the future leaders of our nation.
The journey to change the obesity trend is a difficult one—but not impossible; however, a great purpose requires great efforts. Everyone can play a role and right now we offer you a seat aboard this voyage.
